Here at Tutor Corps, we are so unbelievably lucky to have Kathy Pahel as our Faculty Manager and Instructional Coach. Kathy brings an illustrious career and set of experiences to her role that allow her to advocate for and support teachers in an unparalleled fashion. With a BA in Political Science, minors in Education and Religious Studies, teaching credentials in English and social science, and a Masters in Education, Kathy is an educator through and through. She has been teaching since 2013, from ancient, medieval, and US history in the classroom to five years of 1:1 tutoring and homeschool teaching. Prior to joining our leadership team, she was also a 1:1 tutor with Tutor Corps and the Tutor Corps Foundation and a 1:1 teacher through our sister school, Pacific Preparatory.

Because of this experience, Kathy understands what it means to be an effective educator and has a unique perspective on how to prepare our instructors to thrive. Kathy is in charge of recruiting, hiring, and staffing instructors across both Tutor Corps and PacPrep and has an intuitive sense of how to select the best match. She knows what students need, and how to make sure our instructors are prepared to meet those needs. She has completely revamped our professional development programs from top to bottom, including sending out bi-weekly coaching advice for effective instruction, meeting with teacher teams, and conducting teacher observations each semester.

Don’t let Kathy’s impressive experience fool you: Kathy also makes plenty of time for amazing adventures outside of work, too. When not helping instructors, you will often find Kathy on her standard 4-7 mile hikes, out on the lake in her kayak with her partner Dino, or traveling to a new country and city (Kathy has journeyed to 36 states and 11 countries to date!).
