Best Educational Gifts - A 2020 Guide

Looking for the perfect holiday gift? We’ve compiled a shortlist of our favorite gifts that inspire kids to love learning.

We tried to break down our gift recommendations by age group in each category, although there’s quite a bit of overlap when it comes to educational gifting.

The better prepared a student is for a tutoring session, the more effective the session will be.

Subscription Boxes

Subscription boxes are truly the gifts that keep on giving, and there are plenty of options in the educational realm for every age group. Starting with the littles, you may want to consider the Little Learners Busy Box, My First Reading Club, or Superpower Academy. Slightly older kids might appreciate the boxes from Kiwi Co. and MEL Science, which offer great STEM activities.

Digital Subscriptions & Online Games

Other subscriptions to consider that won’t clutter up the house are found online. Educational online games like Prodigy and Tynker make learning into a video game. Switch also has some great interactive games for kids with access, including Numbala, Scribblenauts, and Trancelation. Since most kids will be stuck inside this winter, it might be a great time to invest in getting a Switch!

Lab Kits

Prefer something less screen-heavy and more hands-on? You can find all kinds of fun lab kits (for all age levels) on Amazon Prime, including this Disgusting Science kit for kids ages 8 and older, or this Squishy Circuits kit for kids in the same age group. Anything you find in the Exploratorium’s online shop promises to be both riveting and educational as well.

It can be helpful for the student & tutor to share a copy of the book if available.

Maps

There are so many different kinds of maps out there, including maps kids can color, maps kids can put together themselves, and interactive globes that work in tandem with software.

Books

This may seem like an obvious one but older kids might enjoy a Kindle for kids or anything else that could encourage more reading & book consumption (Audible subscription, anyone?).

Tutoring & 1:1 Remote Classes

And for the grand finale, why not go straight to the source and give your kids the gift of learning through tutoring and/or remote classes with Pacific Preparatory? Feel free to inquire with us about gift certificates for tutoring or study skills coaching that will make a great gift for any lifelong learner.
