Our Leadership Team

The members of our leadership team have all been working in the field of education for a decade or more. Our team is strong because we share the same values around the wellbeing of our students and our tutors. We believe we can best support them through collaboration and transparent communication.
Education Manager (she/her/hers)
Alyssa supports our clients and students by understanding their individual needs and learning preferences to connect them with the best possible tutor match. She wholeheartedly believes in our 1:1 education model and personalized learning. Alyssa holds a B.S. in Meteorology from Plymouth State University and an MS in Organizational Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University. Prior to joining the Tutor Corps team, Alyssa worked in undergraduate college admissions at a private liberal arts college for several years. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys running, exploring local eateries, and spending time with her husband, twins, and dog.
Operations Director (she/her/hers)
Staci oversees the daily operations and processes of the organization, including leading strategy on professional development, recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes. Staci graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Western Michigan University before completing her Ph.D. in English from Syracuse University. At Syracuse, she taught college-level writing classes and trained new graduate teaching assistants. Before becoming the Operations Director at Tutor Corps, Staci homeschooled and tutored students across the Bay Area through Tutor Corps. In her free time, Staci enjoys reading, hiking, and cooking.
Chief Operating Officer (she/her/hers)
Mel has worked with Tutor Corps since 2015 and oversees all of the Tutor Corps staff and company operations. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Western Michigan University and holds a Single Subject Teaching Credential in English Language Arts and minor in political science. Upon graduating, Mel taught middle school in Sacramento through the Teach For America program and with the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) in San Francisco. She has also served as an Instructional Coach through Breakthrough Collaborative’s summer programming at San Francisco University High School. In her free time, Mel enjoys spending time with her husband, Jake, and daughter, Arlo, as well as working on fun projects, reading, and traveling.
Founder & CEO (he/him/his)
Jesse founded Tutor Corps in 2002 and has carefully managed the growth of the company to ensure that all students are matched with truly exceptional tutors. He provides educational consulting services to schools and families, creates customized programs and curricula, and supports the management team at Tutor Corps. Jesse is also the co-founder of the Tutor Corps Foundation, a San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit organization that provides educational services to under-resourced youth. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University and holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Jesse has 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience and has taught through the Teach for America program in East Palo Alto and at Menlo School’s academic summer camp. He served on the board of trustees of the Marin Waldorf School in San Rafael for six years and is active in the education community.
Educator Coach (she/her/hers)
Karen supports our teaching team and hand selects the best instructor for each student. In collaboration with our teachers, she ensures that lessons are engaging, valuable, and individualized for the best learning experience possible. Karen holds a B.S. in Cognitive Science and M.A. in Legal and Forensic Psychology. Prior to joining the leadership team, she worked as a tutor and instructor for Tutor Corps and Pacific Preparatory, focusing on all things STEM: math, science, coding, etc. In her spare time, Karen enjoys dog training, hiking, and gardening.
Executive Assistant (she/her/hers)
Maddi supports the COO & CEO in day-to-day administrative tasks and projects so that these roles may continue to focus on company growth. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.A. of Science in Imaging with a minor in Communications. She has lived in Los Angeles for the last eleven years working as a graphic designer, primarily for the wine and food industries. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, hiking and spending time with her husband and son.
