Maiceo came to the Tutor Corps Foundation in the spring 2020 as a 6th grader navigating the first wave of COVID-19 online learning. At the time, Maiceo was struggling with school. He wasn’t feeling motivated to complete his coursework and he was struggling with the recent loss of his father. While he was feeling unmotivated, he knew he wanted to reach his full potential. “I’m just trying to be the best for my mom,” he wrote in his initial application. While he wasn’t sure what he wanted to be when he grew up, he knew he wanted to be the best he could be in order to get a good job and support his family.

At Tutor Corps, our Executive Functioning Coaches are specially trained to support students with executive functioning best practices and are also certified to support students with growing their digital literacy skills. We offer 4-session and 8-session minicourses that are great for helping your child start the academic year with a strong foundation, as well as year-long executive functioning coaching.
The Pomodoro Technique is a great strategy for anyone who struggles with executive functioning skills, time management, attention difficulties, or procrastination. It’s a method of organizing your time into concentrated sprints of work with periodic breaks. It’s designed to help you stay focused and get things done, and it works!
Often parents wonder about the best time to start teaching their children reading and writing. The average child learns very basic writing skills around 3-4 years of age and knows how to read simple, age-appropriate books between 5-7. To get here, experts also say that the sooner parents start reading with their children, the better!
