Tutor Corps Foundation: Meet Our Students!

One of the most satisfying things we do here at the Tutor Corps Foundation is offer free tutoring scholarships. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to sponsor bright, motivated students year after year and are so proud to watch them shine and grow under the mentorship of their paired tutors. Prior to this year,  students were only able to receive a scholarship for 1 year. We’ve recently revised this policy, allowing promising students who are deeply invested in the scholarship program to re-apply for subsequent years, inspired in part by the compelling data around the exponential impact of tutoring over a multiple-year span.

Meet a few of our wonderful returning scholarship students for the 2021-2022 academic year:

Tutors help students build confidence.

Sharmaine, Rising 12th grader: “My dream job is to become a nurse because during all my experiences being hospitalized during my childhood, nurses inspired me by how they help people in need.  I want to become the first person in my family to go to college and achieve this dream.”

Maiceo, Rising 8th grader: “One day, I want to be able to support my family and maybe open my own business. I am grateful for all the extra help in school to help me achieve my dreams, especially because it’s just me and my mom supporting each other since my dad passed.”

Tatiana, Rising 9th grader: “My academic goal is to have a good future and to get a degree that can let me help other people. I love science because I love experimenting with new things and ideas.”

David, Rising 6th grader: “I want to challenge myself to be the best I can be and to go above and beyond in math, which will help me achieve my dream job of becoming a constructor. I love to build things!”

Here is an awesome example of one of David’s models.

To continue to support these wonderful students, and still sponsor new students, the Tutor Corps Foundation has renewed fundraising goals in the new year, hoping to raise an additional $10,000 to support students. For just $825, you can sponsor an entire year of tutoring for a child (all funds go directly to paying the tutors for the time; we comp all administrative time). If interested in sponsoring one of our veteran scholarship winners (or donating in any amount big or small), please donate here. Thanks for supporting our mission as we strive to bring the benefits of 1:1 tutoring to as many students as possible.
